Meet Elissa

Hi! 🙂 I am Elissa and thank you for landing on the omG website. I am a lover of all things art and design and color but most importantly, the wife to my soulmate, my Mark. My gift from heaven.

I grew up in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, and I feel so fortunate to have had the influences from my mom and dad back from that time period. My mom was an artist and could apply her innate, knowing sense of design and colors to practically anything. She excelled in any medium, from interior decorating to painting, sketching, and even china painting. My dad was an intelligent engineer with a pure love of mathematics. I was blessed to have had the environment they created to have fun and play, save and love animals, to love and see others through the lens of Jesus, and to also find beauty in any and all things I could encounter. My sister, brother and I would do arts and crafts with my mom, while also being encouraged to think and question, and also love and appreciate math by my dad.

I find it interesting though that I have been on different paths of exploration my entire life.. trying to find where I fit. I always loved and admired art, including interior design and decorating, but I never dreamed I would be so pulled to create art, for there to be a yearning and a pull to paint, for it was always my mom who was the artist.

But after she passed away in 2021 from pancreatic cancer, she was gone in 3 weeks, things changed. She was gone…no more long texts. Silence. But life continued on…. My husband and I relocated to North Carolina soon after with his work. It was a life changing year, a mixture of grief and sadness, yet joy in a new beginning in a beautiful location of rich colors and nature with the love of my life…and our two kitties.

To deal with the loss of my mom, and with an extremely supportive and loving husband, he suggested I start doing some art. It was an attempt to feel connected to her. It soon became a mission of prayer and how do I pursue this next phase….and lo and behold it is now one of feeling my mom in my heart, in my spirit, guiding me to paint and draw, and oh yes, decorate too!

While here, I hope you will be able to find some inspiration and joy while here at ohhhhmyGoodness (omG), along with some tips and experiences in my blog, and to also join me in my journey of pursuing painting along with a growing collection of other vintage, unknown pieces of art I have acquired along the way. And maybe find that moment where you say, ohhhhmyGoodness! 🙂

P.S. ohhhhmyGoodness was named after our sweet baby girl doggy, Marlie Mae, who sadly passed away in 2020. Her happy word was nothing other than, ohhhhmyGoodness!!
